"Unmasked" Wins "IPPY" Award

Unmasked: Women Write about Sex and Intimacy After Fifty has been awarded a bronze “IPPY” medal as a part of the 22nd Annual Independent Publisher Book Awards. These Awards recognize the year’s best independently published books.

Unmasked won the bronze medal in the Anthology category:

  • GOLD: Before All Memory is Lost: Women’s Voices from the Holocaust, edited by Myrna Goldenberg (The Azrieli Foundation)

  • SILVER: Breaking Sad: What to Say After Loss, What Not to Say, and When to Just Show Up, edited by Shelly Fisher & Jennifer Jones (She Writes Press)

  • BRONZE: Unmasked: Women Write About Sex and Intimacy After Fifty, edited by Marcia Meier and Kathleen A. Barry, PhD. (Weeping Willow Books)

Unmasked sheds light on a demographic often unmentioned when the talk turns to sexuality, featuring works by women ranging in age from 50-87, some of whom who are published writers as well as mothers, grandmothers, playwrights, professors, teachers, psychotherapists, and more.

“Two words can describe this year’s IPPY medal-winning books – compassion and action," says Jim Barnes, director of the Awards. “In both the compelling storytelling of the fiction and the solution-based information of the non-fiction, independent publishing is all about passion for people and their causes, and dedication to sharing their stories with a world of readers.”

Launched in 1996, the “IPPY” Awards recognize authors and publishers who “take chances and break new ground.” This year’s contest drew 4,500 entries, and awards were given to authors and publishers from 43 U.S. states, 6 Canadian provinces, and 12 overseas countries.

Weeping Willow Books is honored to be recognized among such innovative authors and publishers who value "Compassionate Storytelling from Diverse Points of View.” Thank you, Independent Publisher, for the recognition.

“This collection of essays and poetry is meant to bring post-50 sex out into the open, to proclaim it is important, it is natural and healthy and, for some women, it is absolutely necessary,” editor Marcia Meier explains.
